::Background Information::
"The One" is a non-corporeal malevolent entity from another spatial domain and across the "multi-verse" of alternate universes. First encountered in 2287 by the U.S.S. Enterprise-A at the planet Sha Ka Ree, it attempted to manipulate the Vulcan cult leader Sybok to free it from its imprisonment by impersonating "God".
"The One" was once a member of the Q Continuum who disagreed with the Continuum's current philosophy of non-interference with other ascended races, something also later disregarded by the being known as "Q" encountered by the Enterprise-D in 2364.
However unlike Q, The One believed that the Continuum should dominate the Milky Way Galaxy and set in motion events, eventually resulting in the supernova that destroyed the ancient T'Kon Empire.
As punishment for his crimes against the fledgling Milky Way Galaxy, The One was confined to a specially created prison on the planet of Sha Ka Ree within the Galactic Core and the Continuum erected a large "Galactic Barrier" to prevent him from escaping.
The Q Continuum, previously the same race as the Preservers/Ancients/First Humanoids who had achieved "ascension" and transcended to another plain of existence believed that this would keep The One contained indefinitely and due to this incident with The One, the Continuum adopted strict rules on non-interference with lesser evolved species, something that they still adhere to today (despite several members doing the contrary, i.e. Q).
However The One was still able to communicate with the Vulcan cult leader Sybok, and half brother of Commander Spock, who commandeered the U.S.S. Enterprise-A through telepathic manipulation and took the vessel to Sha Ka Ree. The One managed to convince Sybok that he was "God" and used his powers to augment this illusion until questioned by Captain James T Kirk.
The One then proceeded to kill Sybok and attempted to use the Enterprise-A to escape his prison before intercepted and stopped by a Klingon Bird of Prey long enough for the Enterprise-A to escape.
The One was still trapped within the barrier in 2374 when another ex-member of the Q Continuum, named "0" or "Nil" attempted to use the U.S.S. Enterprise-E to free him but was stopped by both Q and the Calamarain before being able to breach the Galactic Barrier.
It should also be noticed that Q barely managed to stop The One before he escaped the confines of barrier and was punished by the Q Continuum for interfering in this manner, suggesting that The One had once been a powerful member of the Continuum, even surpassing Q himself.
The One eventually managed to escape his imprisonment in 2390 when a Cardassian Galor class, lead by Gul Zultrune, following stolen classified Starfleet records obtained by the True Way Terrorist Group crossed the Galactic Barrier in an attempt to recruit the powers of "The One" to free Cardassia from Federation influence and restore the Obsidian Order.
The One masqueraded as the Cardassian deity, which the Cardassians had originally worshiped before their planet ran out of the resources needed to sustained them which force the military to take over Cardassian affairs and killed Gul Zultrune, using his vessel, the Aranak to escape the Galactic Barrier.
The One easily killed all the crew of the Aranak and used it to create a massive cloud of unstable energy around the Aranak to protect his mode of transportation but found that he was unable to leave the Milky Way Galaxy due to the Great Barrier at the edge of the galaxy, making it unable for it to escape.
The I.K.S. Antaak, a Klingon science vessel was sent to investigate this strange moving cloud that resembled a storm of blue energy and vanished, with the U.S.S. Nightingale, a Nebula Class Federation Science vessel also vanishing after encountering this anomaly while searching for the Antaak.
Unknown to Starfleet or the Klingons, The One was using the Cardassian vessel as a base and moving through space, collecting raw materials needed to build an army of servants that could conquer the Milky Way Galaxy and force the Q Continuum to face it so that it could destroy them and achieve its ages old objective.
