The USS Kali, commanded by Captain Erin Sutler arrives to assist the heavily damaged Avenger on the edge of the Mutara Nebula. The main deflector was heavily damaged due to a feedback pulse caused by the Fluidic Borg vessel when they adapted to the antiproton beam which the Avenger attempted to use to disable them.
Captain Sutler advises Captain Frostmane to rendezvous with the fleet in the Braslota Star System, which is uninhabited star system which the Borg will have to travel through in order to reach the core of Federation Space.
However Shadow becomes unstable when an unknown Borg nano-virus, which was unknowingly infecting the ship's systems through First Officer, Commander Ecto, seizes control of the Avenger, causing it to turn its weapons onto the Kali.
It becomes a race against time and man against machine as the crew attempt to shut the Borg infected A.I. down and rendezvous with the ship in order to bring an end to the Fluidic Borg once and for all.
